Christ Church Amsterdam currently has a vacancy for a Senior Chaplain

General Information about this positionWe are an English-speaking Anglican chaplaincy of 3 congregations, Christ-centred, tech-savvy and home to a great diversity of members, both long-term and those passing through. We seek someone who is:

• energetic and adaptive, who will lead our three distinct congregations
• Bible-based, gospel-centred and mission-oriented, while being welcoming to people from all shades of Anglicanism and a great variety of backgrounds
• a strong facilitator, able to collaborate with clergy and lay persons, empowering others for leadership

And who has:

• a strong ministry of preaching and teaching, with a developed sense of the role of music in worship
• an affinity with the diversity of city ministry and life in an urban setting
• an eye for new opportunities and a love for challenges
• a native or near-native level of English, with an adaptive cultural view

Remuneration package aligned with standard practice in the Diocese in Europe, pension contributions, medical insurance, usual expenses and a 4-bedroom house with office.

All applicants should note that a proficiency in spoken and written English is a diocesan requirement for all licensed clergy. Dutch proficiency or willingness to learn Dutch is desired.

It is helpful, if some information about language skills and competency level could be given ie basic; basic++; or, fluent.

If the partner of an applicant is ordained it is helpful if this could be indicated so that additional information can be sent if the applicant is selected for interview.

There is a commitment to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults. Safeguarding Policies (vetting and screening) will apply to this post. Applicants called for interview will be sent a Confidental Declaration to be completed and signed. This relates to the Safeguarding Policy (screening and vetting).

  • Information given on the Application Form may be shared with the members of the Bishop’s senior staff, the Appointed Church Representatives selected to act on behalf of the Church Council in connection with the appointment and the Archdeacon.
  • Certain information eg name, address, telephone and email address are stored electronically on the Christ Church vacancies database for a maximum period of 6 months. The completed Application Form may also stored in a manual filing system.
