South is an international congregation, with Europe, Africa and North America well-represented: we benefit from the presence nearby of the Tyndale Theological Seminary.
South’s service are led by piano, guitar and singers; we use a mix of modern and older English-language songs, and the format of services is Holy Communion (Sundays 2 and 4 in the month) and Service of the Word (Sundays 1 and 3), all according to material from the Church of England. We hope that visitors and newcomers find us friendly; we invite all to drinks before the 1015 service (doors open at 1000) as well as afterwards, and we have a monthly lunch on the first Sunday of every month. We are particularly accessible by car, being right by the A10 “Oud Zuid” motorway exit. Parking is free and plentiful. A recent congregation survey had “weekly contact with friends” and “gospel preaching” as the top reasons for attending South.
Children’s and Youth work (up to 14 years) operates with a skilled local team on “Communion Sundays” (2 and 4). All helpers and leaders in that work are fully-checked both by the Dutch and the Anglican safeguarding systems. The same is true of prayer ministry, offered after each service. A creche-space is available, staffed by parents.
The Chaplain of Christ Church Amsterdam, Alan Strange, is the main preacher at South.
