Just been to the celebration BBQ in Bobeldijk. Great to see faces I've never met before, both old and new. Old(er) were Ken Shill and Jackie McCartney and lots of new people who have recently joined Heiloo.

I am full of gratitude to God and the people He called to NWE. It was a week of great teaching, worship, fellowship and a lot of hard work! It appears God has got plans to build his Church in Europe!

It would be helpful if you could post here some of the questions you have about how to be a Christian at work.
What are the struggles you have with work? ...with your boss?

Well, this is how the voting went yesterday. After some emotional debates, the tension focuses on how those who cannot accept women bishop should be provided for. There is not enough trust among them to believe that bishops will cater for their needs in the future. They believe that the legislation proposed (the draft Measure) should be beefed. Both bishops voted against the draft Measure, 10 clergy voted against it, and 11 for (1 abstention). 15 laity voted for the Measure and 6 against (3 abstentions). So the result was that as a Synod we voted for women bishops (in simple terms!).

However, due to a quirk of our Diocese, the Synod decision isn't what goes back to General Synod. Bishop's Council does that in our meeting in October. So Bishop's Council members (of which I am one) need to take note of what Synod says, but the Bishop's Council vote is what General Synod will receive. So we have to go through all this again.

Basically a lot of people, me included, are not happy with provision for those who have always been part of the Church of England, but will now feel excluded. So whether we can draft an alternative motion which does resolve the issues, I don't know...

I've just spoken to David and his lawyer in Kampala. His lawyer is writing to the Inspector General of Police to ask why David has to report to a secret address in order to make a statement. Can the Police verify that these men who visited David, and the address they gave are operating within the law? Can they be sure that David will not be detained? If so, on what charges will he be detained?

It's good that David is getting local advice and support structures. Please continue to pray that he can live freely, without the fear of men knocking on his door and telling them to go to an unknown address.

David's lawyer tells me that at the moment, it's good to publicise his case.

7th June Update
David has gone into hiding, but is suffering. He has caught malaria and typhoid. Does anyone have a laptop which we could send out to him (a group from our archdeaconry are visiting Uganda in September) together with a small portable printer? He needs to be able to communicate, and have wifi... can anyone help?
